Setup SMTP server using Amazon Web Services

If you have decided to use AWS as your SMTP server, you must verify your Email or Domain with them. They don't allow sending emails from unverified email addresses. If you verify a domain instead, you can use any email address at that domain without verifying the emails separately.

Step 1: Create Account

Create and activate a new AWS account

If you do not have an AWS account already create one.

Step 2: Sign In

Sign In to the AWS Console

You can Sign in using your Root account or with an IAM Account. To learn more about these accounts click here.

Step 3: Enable SMTP

Enable SMTP Server in your AWS account

  • Sign in to the console and in the search box, type SES and select Amazon Simple Email Service.
  • In the left navigation pane, click SMTP Settings.
  • Note down Server Name and Port.
  • Click on the Create My SMTP Credentials button.
  • It will ask you for an IAM user name. Provide a name, and click Create button on the bottom right corner.
  • Download your credentials using Download Credentials button.
  • You now have all the information you need for the SMTP server.

Step 4: Verify Email

Verify the email using which you intend to send your email campaigns

  • In the AWS console search box, type SES and select Amazon Simple Email Service.
  • In the left pane, under Identity Management section, click Email Addresses.
  • Click on Verify a New Email Address button and follow instructions. You will receive a mail from AWS with link.
  • Click on the link to verify your email address.
  • You are done!

If you want to avoid the hassle of verifying all emails, you may choose to verify your Domain using Domains option in the left navigation bar. You will receive instructions about how to verify your domain and once done you can continue to BakeMyWeb for enabling these email users.

Step 5: Update BakeMyWeb

Update BakeMyWeb with your SMTP details

  • Login to your BakeMyWeb account.
  • Click on Settings > Verified Emails menu.
  • Click on the Verify button.
  • Add the email address and name.
  • In the SMTP Details section, select Amazon Web Services as the service provider.
  • For host, enter Server Name and Port you noted down in Step 3.
  • Username and password would be there in your Downloaded File in Step 3.
  • Click the Start Verification button.

If everything is working correctly, you should receive a mail on the verified email address.
