Setup SMTP server using a Gmail account

Step 1: Create Account

Create and activate a new Google account

If you do not have a Gmail account already create one.

Step 2: Enable IMAP

Enable IMAP for your Gmail account

Login to your Gmail account.

Goto Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > Click on Enable IMAP and save the changes.

Step 3: Update Security

Enable 2-Factor Authentication in your account

  • Click on Manage my Account > Security page. On the Security page, scroll down until you find Signing in to Google section. Click on 2-Step Verification and get started with your extra layer of security. Unless you enable 2-step verification, you won't be able to use your Gmail account's SMTP information on BakeMyWeb.
  • Click on App Passwords and select Other option.
  • Name the app (ex. For BakeMyWeb) and click on GENERATE button.

  • Once the password is generated, make a note of the new password for further usage and click on DONE.

Step 5: Update BakeMyWeb

Update BakeMyWeb with your SMTP details

  • Login to your BakeMyWeb account.
  • Click on Settings > Verified Emails menu.
  • Click on the Verify button.
  • Add the following information...
    • Name: Your Name
    • Email: Your Email Address
    • Service Provider: Gmail
    • Host: smtp.gmail.com
    • Port: 465
    • User Name: Your Gmail Username
    • Password: App password you copied in the previous step
    • Click on the Start Verification button

If everything is working correctly, you should receive a mail on the verified email address. Provide the OTP and you are good to go.
